Former CBS Evening News Anchor and NBC Today Co-Anchor

ABC recently announced that Katie Couric is returning to daytime television to host a syndicated talk show slated to air in September 2012. This brings full-circle her career that spans all three major networks.

Most recently, Couric was anchor and managing editor of CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, a 60-Minutes correspondent and anchor of CBS News primetime specials from 2006 to 2011. Prior to joining CBS, Couric completed a 15-year run as co-anchor of NBC Today. Her career started in 1979 as an ABC News desk assistant in Washington, D.C.

Throughout her career Couric has covered major historic events as well as interviewed a diverse list of newsmakers. Couric’s high-profile stories include the 2008 presidential election, broadcasts from Iraq and Syria, the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, the Columbine tragedy and Princess Diana’s funeral. When her husband died of colon cancer, she also led a major national effort to raise awareness and research funding for the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States.

Named by Forbes magazine as one of the most influential women in media, Couric will kick off our 2011-2012 season with insights into the events that shaped our lives.
