Mike Huckabee Former Governor of Arkansas and 2008 Presidential Candidate
Former Governor Mike Huckabee (Arkansas, 1996-2007) recently campaigned for the Republican nomination for President. Initially an unknown, he gained national prominence when he won the 2008 Iowa caucuses. From there he did well in Southern polls and on Super Tuesday, but his campaign fell short of gaining the nomination and he dropped out on Mar. 4.
Determined to see more members of his party in House, Senate and governor seats, he recently formed HuckPac. Its provides financial support for young conservative candidates that take a passionate stance on tax reform, real border security, strong national defense and protection of life and liberty.
Huckabee entered politics when he was elected lieutenant governor in a 1993 special election, then to a full four-year term in 1994. He was only the fourth Republican to be elected to statewide office since Reconstruction.
In July 1996 he was appointed the 44th Governor of Arkansas after his predecessor resigned. Huckabee was elected to a full four-year term as governor in 1998, attracting the largest percentage of the vote ever received by a Republican gubernatorial nominee in Arkansas, and was re-elected to another four-year term in November 2002. Time Magazine honored him in 2005 as one of the five best governors in America.
In addition to his political career, Huckabee has authored six books, plays bass guitar for a rock band (Capitol Offense) and served as a pastor. His experiences on an off the campaign trail will offer an evening of stimulating discussion.
