Rick Santorum To Kick-Off The Economic Club 2012-2013 Speaker Series

Former 2012 Republican Presidential Candidate to Address Club Sept. 18

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Rick Santorum, former 2012 presidential candidate and senator from Pennsylvania (R-1995-2007), recently accepted an invitation to be the first guest speaker for The Economic Club of Southwestern Michigan 2012-2013 Speaker Series. He will address the member-only club on Sept. 18, it was announced today by Club President Mike Cook. Santorum will be joining comedian Bill Cosby, home and lifestyle expert Martha Stewart, NFL quarterback Tim Tebow and a soon-to-be determined fifth speaker for this year's series. Cook said a complete roster would be available by the end of this month.

Known as a conservative alternative to Mitt Romney, Santorum was lauded by his supporters for his values, advocacy for smaller government and desire to beef up national security and return the country to its founding principles. His years serving as senator on the House Ways and Means, Senate Finance and Armed Services Committees allowed him to influence the historic Welfare Reform Act, combat global HIV/AIDS, strengthen Social Security, lower the tax burden on working families, reduce American dependency on foreign oil and champion the institution of marriage. He is currently writing a book on the "Gathering Storm of the 21st Century," the war against a radical Islamic fascist enemy and its growing alliances.

Santorum's pre-election visit will provide timely insights into the people and policies that will shape not only the economic landscape for the U.S. in the next four years, but for this region as well.
